The big freeze we had before Christmas caused all sorts of problems for homes across Glasgow.
Especially when it came to drainage pipes.
As we all know, water expands when it freezes and within water pipes in your home, if there is not enough pipe lagging, the pipes are exposed to the elements and are far more likely to freeze. The water expands and puts more stress on the drain pipe. If enough stress is applied, the drain pipe can crack and cause a leak. And that is exactly what happened to many people in Glasgow. Their drain pipes would freeze, crack and begin leaking. This was a big issue if the drain pipe in question was the one connected to your toilet. We always advice clients that they need to call us should they notice their drain has become slow. Why? Because when the pipes freeze, there is more water and debris within the pipe and that can cause more pressure build up.
Since the big freeze, we have been inundated with call outs because of leaking drains and when the weather becomes warmer, we will be busy fitting more pipe lagging to help prevent this from happening again.
If you have suffered from frozen pipes this winter and would like to know more about pipe lagging then give us a call today.
