Across Glasgow, there are a lot of different styles of home. From old Victorian Sand Stone building to bungalows, modern new build townhouses made of brick, apartments, flats, semi detached, detached and so on.
Yet each and every one needs drainage, so for example, a semi detached property has three sections of roof. The front facing, side facing and rear facing roof. And then there is the other sections of roof that make up the semi detached neighbours home. The front and rear facing roofs generally share gutters with a drainage pipe either side. When the homes were designed, the drainage calculations were based on what factual information they had. But what if that changed? What if the home owner added an extension to their home and in doing so, increased the amount of roof space and drainage needs they required. But what if they didn’t increase the drainage capacity?
Well that is exactly what we were called out for. It wasn’t a drainage emergency, a blocked drain or a broken drain pipe. It was a simple case of too much water and not enough drainage capacity.
The home owner in Anniesland in the West End of Glasgow had added an extension to their home. The builders simply connected the extension drainage onto the existing drainage down pipe. However as we all know in Glasgow, when it rains – IT RAINS!!!!
So when it rains in Glasgow, the drainage was not enough to cope with the amount of water that was coming down the drain pipe. This led to the home owners monoblocked driveway consistently flooding.
The West End customer called us to simply enquire if anything could be done. They found us because they were looking for a recommended drainage company in Glasgow.
We agreed a time to visit the client and inspect the issue. The solution was quite simple, the execution required a bit of finnese. We needed to add a new drainage gully so allow more drainage options when the heavy rain did indeed fall. It required digging up some of the existing monoblock driveway and add a new drainage gully. We then carefully replaced the monoblock sections so successfully, that the customer couldn’t even spot what sections we had lifted.
As always, we provided a quality service at a fair price. We provided a quality service that fixed the problem. How do we know that? The customer called us to say thank you as after two heavy Glasgow rainfalls, they were impressed to see that the water was draining away nice and quickly.
