A Victorian home with the wrong angle

Your home drainage system is all based on gravity and pressure.  So when you drain the kitchen sink, gravity allows the water to drain away from the sink and into the main drainage pipe of the house.  This pipe is angles to allow gravity to push the water like a stream down the pipe and into the streets main drainage system.

But we have been in Kelvinside in the West End of Glasgow fixing a drainage pipe because the angles were just wrong.

A customer had recently had their kitchen replaced with a shiny new one which in our own words – looked very nice.  With older homes like this, there is plenty of space below the floor to add in new drainage pipes because the kitchen has an island with the sink effectively in the middle of the room.  But the kitchen fitters had not added enough of an angle to the drainage pipe from the sink (and dishwasher) to allow the water to move quickly enough.  So the G12 customers new kitchen, which was put in in February has already suffered from a number of blockages.  At first they tried to deal with it themselves by pouring drain unblocker chemicals down the sink hole.  But as we always tell our customers, this is a short term solution and only really works for the immediate length of pipe.  If the blockage is further down the drain pipe, the chemical solution won’t really do anything.

So after three blockages in a row, the customer called JSL Drainage.  They had used JSL before through our heating division (JSL Heating), and knew that we were a company of strong values.

So we turned up within the allocated time slot and began inspecting the problem.  After a few tests and some crawling under the floor, we isolated the issue to the drain pipe angle.  To be fair to the kitchen fitters, they were only a little bit off.

So we adjusted the drainage pipe fittings to increase the angle and as with all of our work, we guarantee it all so if the Glasgow West End customer has another blockage soon, we will come back out and fix the problem – no questions asked.
