Being a drainage expert isn’t always about plungers and jet blasters. There are times when being Glasgow’s leading independent drainage company means that we really have to sweat it out. And that is exactly what we just had to go through the other day. While so many of the residents of Glasgow were enjoying the Easter Weekend heat wave, we were hard at work.
We had received a call from a customer in the West End of Glasgow (Clydebank to be precise) who had a blocked drain. The drain pipe leading from the roof had begun to overflow when it rained and it was clear that there was a blockage.
The problem was accessing the blocked drain. The pipe itself ran from the top of the house gutters all the way down to the ground and then under it. When we did some tests, we discovered that the blockage was actually underground and that meant we needed to dig. So that is what we did. We had to cut some concrete paving slabs and then dig down to gain access to the external drainage pipe.
For a short period of time, we stopped being a drainage company and became gardeners as we dug down to gain access.
When we had accessed the drainage pipe, we put our drainage hat back on and got stuck in with unblocking the drain.
The cause of the blockage it transpired was a collection of water balloons and some sticks that had merged together to form a quite sturdy barrier. It was all because the home owners kids had one day (for fun), been throwing around water balloons and enough burst balloon wrappers had collected in the drain and then flowed away down the drain pipe when the next heavy rain had hit. They had got stuck together with some general sticks and twigs and over the next few rainfalls had created quite a substantial barrier / blockage that had led to the customer needed to call us out to the West End address.
As always, we fixed the issue, filled back in the dug hole and continued on our way to the next blocked drain incident in Glasgow.
Drains can block for all manner or reasons. From what you flush down the toilet to what you pour down the drain and it turns out, what flows down your gutter drains as well.
No matter what the drainage issue, JSL Drainage is here to help unblock your drainage issue and get things flowing again.
