There are many reasons for a drain pipe to collapse.
From heavy rain causing subsoil to give way to tree roots literally crushing the pipe. Even parked cars on a driveway can cause excess weight to build at a specific point which can cause the pipe to crack.
Whatever the reason, if you have suffered from a collapsed drain then it needs to be repaired.
We are JSL Drainage. One of the leading drainage companies in Glasgow. From unblocking drains to repairing collapsed drain pipes for residents across the city.
Repairing a collapsed drain pipe
A cracked drain pipe can go unnoticed for a period of time, especially if it is not the main drain for the house. The excess water can be absorbed into the soil and you are non the wiser. Alternatively, if it is an obstruction, it can create a temporary blockage which, because the drain is not used consistently, has time to drain away, meaning it is less likely to be noticed.
The first sign that you have a collapsed drain can either be sewage build up in your garden of a foul smell coming from your kitchen or bathroom sink hole.
Repairing a drain pipe is relatively simple (when you are a local drainage expert that is). We use thermal cameras to detect where the collapse point is and can use CCTV drain cameras to confirm this so that we know exactly what area of the drain pipe has collapsed. This is important because it means we know exactly where to dig and that means less mess in your garden AND less time until we can access and repair your collapsed drain.

A customer in the North of Glasgow who has used our sister division JSL Plumbing had a new driveway fitted. While it looked lovely, the driveway contractor has not added any form of protection for the drain pipe that run below the driveway mono blocking.
Over the next few months, the heavy rain in Glasgow helped to wash away some of the soil protection around the pipe and then, because of where the pipe lay in relation to where the homeowner parked their car, the excess weight caused the drain pipe to collapse because of the weight.
The problem was not noticed at first. Eventually the heavy build up of moss on the driveway because of the dampness beneath caused the owner to investigate. It turns out that while the drain pipe had collapsed, it had not fully blocked the pipe. This allowed water to drain away but at a much slower pace while also seeping into the surrounding soil which cause the dampness build up above.
We removed a section of the monoblock driveway, dug down to the pipe, removed a section and replaced it with new piping. We then ensured that the pipe had more adequate protection and then replaced the mono block driveway stones.
